Constant access to a large water dish containing appropriate water is mandatory for a Yellow Belly Ball Python for both hydration and soaking needs. However, distilled water must be explicitly avoided in the drinking supply. Although distilled water is sometimes utilized in misters because it prevents mineral residue buildup, its complete lack of dissolved minerals creates an osmotic imbalance when ingested. This imbalance forces the snake's body to draw necessary electrolytes and essential minerals out of its own system to balance the concentration gradient.
